Did you know that among Michigan women, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death? The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be at least 8,700 new cases of breast cancer in Michigan women this year, in addition to those that already exist.
Susan G. Komen Michigan was formed in 2015 and is “dedicated to combating breast cancer, saving lives, and reducing breast cancer mortality in Michigan.” Through community support, they aim to overcome the financial, cultural, transportation, and language barriers that some of the women in our community face that prevent them from getting screened and receiving the proper treatment. With the money raised and donated, they “fund life-saving programs and research.”
